Zia Rifle and Pistol Club is one of the ranges we use for practice and competition. It is located south of the Albuquerque International Airport in the Open Space area. Memberships in Zia R&P are a very reasonable $120/year for unlimited 24/7 access |
Here are some photos of the smallbore silhouette area .... only 1/2 the chickens are up. I took these as I was going into work so you can see that early NM sunshine is like. |
This is the view from the #2 Chicken firing bay |
White (#2) Chicken rail up with Black (#1) folded. Note the green foliage .... we've been getting rain here in NM! |
Closeup of the #2 rail. Note I only have the locking bolt in the single near leg. Normally there are bolts in all 3 for stability |
All the locking bolts out and folding the rail down to prevent them being used as HP targets |
Closeup of folded rail. Note the unique bolt in the locking hole .... this prevents most folks from folding up the rail and drilling holes in it .... Just a set of "cups" welded together that are used as washers for the bolt and Nylock nut. All you need is a pair of sockets to get it off, but most folks don't carry them in their vehicles. We used to use locks, but sand kept getting in them and we'd have to cut the lock off ..... got too expensive. All we're trying to do is prevent the jerks from shooting the rails with HP rounds. I think our Silhouette Director, Sean Terrell, came up with these designs and fab'd them. We can easily set up all 8 rails in 20 minutes or less and be firing in less than a half hour after we arrive. |
